Vehicle related crime

A timely reminder on behalf of Leicestershire Police Valley Beat Team...

There has been a recent increase in vehicle related crime on the NN43 Valley Beat with several 'car key burglaries' and 'thefts from motor vehicles' taking place in the locality. Please remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity via 101.

Protecting your vehicle from theft, including the increasing incidence of car key burglaries, is essential. Here are some effective crime prevention tips.

1. Use a Steering Wheel Lock: A physical barrier can deter thieves. A visible steering wheel lock can make your car less appealing to steal.

2. Install an Alarm System: An alarm can alert you and others nearby if someone tries to break in or tamper with your car.

3. Keep Windows and Doors Locked: Always ensure that your windows and doors are securely locked when your vehicle is parked, even if it's just for a short time.

4. Park in Well-Lit Areas: Choose well-lit and populated areas to park your vehicle. Avoid isolated or dimly lit spots.

5. Use a GPS Tracking Device: Consider installing a GPS tracker in your vehicle. This can help locate your car if it is stolen.

6. Don't Leave Valuables in Plain Sight: Keep items like bags, electronics, and other valuables out of sight to avoid attracting attention.

7. Be Mindful of Your Surroundings: Always be aware of your surroundings when walking to or from your vehicle. If something feels off, consider moving to a different area or returning later.

8. Utilize Key-less Entry Security: If you have a key-less entry system, use a Faraday pouch or aluminum foil to block signals from key fobs when not in use, preventing relay theft.

9. Install a Dash Camera: A dash camera can provide video evidence in case of theft, which might aid in recovery and prosecution.

10. Engage with Local Community Programs: Participate in neighborhood watch programs or local crime prevention initiatives to stay informed and connected with your community.

By taking these steps, you can help reduce the risk of theft and protect your vehicle from crime.
